Excel assignment #1 recap

Quite a few students misread step #5 of this homework assignment. The instruction read
In cell F5, construct a formula that will subtract cell E5 from B5.
The correct formula is

     = B5 - E5

not

     = E5 - B5

By entering the formula incorrectly, these students lost 8 points. They lost another 4 points in step #9 which required
Use the fill handle to copy the formulas in cells E5, F5, H5, and I5 down through row 8.
Since you didn't have the correct formula in cell F5, Grader took off points for not having the correct formula in cells F6:F8.

I do not feel that this is entirely fair since Grader is penalizing you twice. I added back half of the points for the formula in cell F5 if you had it backwards and I also added back the other 4 points from step #9. The net effect is if you had the formula in cell F5 backwards, I added 8 points to your grade. These points are out of 100.

The assignment is actually worth 30 points towards your final grade. So, if this was the only error you had in your homework, Grader assigned you 88 points out of 100 which corresponds to 26.4 points out of 30 towards your semester grade. By adding 8 points back, I raised these grades to 96 out of 100, corresponding to 28.8 points out of 30 towards your semester grade.
